FAQ
What Is Counselling?
Personal counselling involves a trained counsellor, working collaboratively with client(s) for changes and improvements. Confidentiality is fundamental base for counselling – sharing between the client and the counsellor is revealed to no one, unless written consent from the client is given to the counsellor for the release of the information*. The counselling direction and the objectives will be set by client for the specific goal(s) that the client wants to achieve. If needed, the counsellor can work together with the client to set the objectives for the ultimate goal(s) that the client wants to achieve at the end of the counselling.
Will Counselling Help Me?
Sometimes, you may not know what specific goals that you want to get from the counselling, because everything may overwhelm you and you feel tangled up inside. For that reason, a trained professional counsellor will help you to walk with you through various obstacles and situations that you are in. The trained counsellor is an impartial person who can give you perspective, and tools to use to relieve you from the suffering and to guide you to move forward with courage and insights. Slowly you will begin to find a path and the tools with which work for you to handle the stress, and challenges of your life. Clarity, insights, wisdom, courage and hope are often the by-products that you would gain even from the first session.

In what forms does the counselling therapy take place during the pandemic?
Due to Covid 19, some sessions may be booked for online/phone therapy sessions instead of in-person therapy session, in order to minimize the health risks from in-person therapy. Over the course of the counselling journey, a hybrid form of online and in-person session may take place. When it is safer to resume in-person therapy session, the counsellor and the client would arrange the time and the date for in-person therapy. And when it is unsafe, due to either the counsellor or client feels unwell, then the next session can be switched to phone/video counselling session. Both the client and the counsellor would be well informed of the switches beforehand.
How does phone counselling/ video counselling work?
A phone session is a great way to connect with your therapist. A landline or cell phone, whichever the client prefers, the phone session can take place wherever. You can also have a video counselling session with your therapist where a video platform allows the client and counsellor join to connect with each other in a virtual face-to-face setting. Video counselling takes places through entering with a passcode where no one else could interrupt the session. Both phone and video sessions will be conducted with confidentiality in place and safety feature in place. Please contact me for further details.
How Long is the session and how many sessions do I need to feel better?
Each session is 55 minutes long for individual counselling session, and 90 minutes for couple/family counselling session. Specific number of sessions to achieve initial objectives would vary depending on the issues and the individual needs. The counsellor will be able to sit down and listen to your needs, to be able to suggest the recommended number of session at the end of the 1st counselling session.

While counselling services are not covered by BC Medical plan, some extended medical programs (i.e., Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife etc.) cover counselling services. To confirm your eligibility, check with your extended medical services provider before booking a session with me. Also, if you are eligible, ICBC motor vehicle accident injury compensation plan may cover your counselling sessions. There are Crime Victim Assistance Program and WorkSafe BC programs that may cover your counselling services. Please check with your policy provider for my designation, RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor), to ensure counselling services from RCC is covered by the plan. It is the responsibility of the client to check with the policy provider before booking a session. Should you need help on this, please contact me.
Do I need a referral to see you for counselling?
No. There is no need to get a referral for counselling services. However, if you have a third party funding vendor, such as ICBC, Worksafe BC, Crime Victim Assistance Program or your employment assistance program and extended health programs, let me know that you are covered by your provider. If needed, I could write a letter for your counselling needs to your policy provider, if your policy does not identify my designation of RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor).
What is your cancellation policy?
It is required to give 24 hours cancellation notice. When there is no notice or cancellation notice is given less than 24 hours, the full session fee may incur, for the booked session could have been reserved for someone else who requires counselling services. It is the counsellor’s discretion to determine if the client’s situation may require waiver of a cancellation fee.
Payment Method
Session fees are payable by cash, cheque, or e-transfer (e-transfers must be received prior to the session). My counselling services are often covered by most extended medical benefits (please confirm this with your benefits provider) as well as ICBC, Crime Victim Assistance Program and WorkSafeBC program.
